Agricultural Machinery General

These are all projects undertaken and designed in Solidworks whilst I worked for Farmservices Engineeering Ltd in Pukekohe. They show a cropsprayer based on a John Deere tractor, and fertiliser side dressers and a bulk carrot transporter based around Multidrive tractors from the UK.

Stand FEA (Finite Element Analysis)

This project involved modelling a support stand and applying loads to it in order to determine if the design was strong enough. Solidworks simulation software is a quick way to give good approximate results.

General Industrial Projects

This is a small selection of projects undertaken for various clients.

Compressor System Pipework

The objective was to produce schematics and layout drawings for a multiple compressor installation. By modelling the various systems as separate sub assemblies based on a common template, it was possible to overlay multiple pipe systems in the same model.

Pipework Modifications

The purpose of this model was to show how a new pump and associated pipework would integrate into an existing system.

Rodeo Bull

This is a mechanical bull commissioned by a client. After looking at an existing design, I managed to simplify the drive mechanism and significantly reduce the number of components in the design. The machine was built and installed.

All the Time - Sculpture - Anton Parsons

The sculpture was modelled in Solidworks, initially as a basic shape until the artist was happy with the proportions. Next each of the 104 segments (consisting of 2 stainless folded plates and a flange piece) was modelled and assembled. Some of the useful features in Solidworks such as 'smart components' made laborious tasks much quicker.

The numbers around each segment represent a year e.g. 1943. The sequence was determined by the artist. Each segment has a unique laser cut hole pattern for the copper numbers to rivet on to. The sculpture is now installed in Christchurch.

Case Self Propelled Sprayer

This is one of a range of crop sprayers I was involved in designing during the 1990s. As well as self propelled machines, I designed tractor mounted, trailed and demountable machines.

Vegetable sizer

This machine was modelled in solidworks using legacy data from pencil drawings, sketches and Autocad files. The machine was modelled in considerable detail allowing a full bill of materials to be produced.
